There are a few famous Penang Nasi Kandar outlets in Klang Valley, but I find most of them a little too pricey for my liking (I tend to keep my lunch budget within RM10, if possible). However, a friend introduced Kok Siong Nasi Kandar at Puchong and suggested that I opt for their basic serving without going crazy on the side orders; that is if I want to keep my lunch frugal.
Heeding her advice, I went for their basic ‘Ayam Goreng’ set that comes with crispy fried chicken (I asked for small), vegetable, papadum, rice and mix gravy. I added a boiled egg because generally, I like to balance out flavours from curries with the taste of a yolk. Even with the addition of an egg, this set cost RM9.00… not bad for Penang Nasi Kandar pricing in Klang Valley.
The fried chicken was crispy, and the uncle added some extra crunchy bits on top too, adding more crunch! The vegetable provided the fresh sweetness to balance out the overall taste, ensuring the dish isn’t overwhelmed by the mixed chicken-mutton-fish curries.
Overall, a very satisfying and filling lunch for under RM10. Perhaps you can give Kok Siong Nasi Kandar a try if you are in the Puchong area craving for some Penang Nasi Kandar. Below is the picture of the stall, with other set options and price range. Be wary of your portion and side dishes selection if you are going for a budget meal.
